Beyond just hitting the bullseye, my friend, understanding the importance of scoring zones is fundamental to smart darts strategy. As your coach, I'll guide you: the board is split into different segments, and clever players know exactly where to aim their darts to get the most points or set up their next shot.
For general scoring in '01 games, the Triple 20 is king. Its neighboring segments (1 and 5\) are low, so if you miss a little, the damage isn't too bad compared to missing a T16 into 8 or 7\. If your T20 isn't working, the Triple 19 or Triple 18 are great alternative high-scoring areas, especially T19 since its neighbors are 3 and 7, again minimizing damage from slight misses.
When you're setting up for a double, knowing the numbers around your target is vital. If you're on 60 and want D20, aiming for the T20 area usually allows for a comfortable miss into S20, leaving D20. Conversely, if you're on a number where a specific single is critical (like 50, needing S10 for D20), understanding the "safe" areas around that single is important. Smart aiming isn't just about hitting the bullseye; it's about managing your misses.
